Poochy is a dog that has appeared throughout the Yoshi franchise. In most games, he can be found in certain levels and serves as a safe platform. Poochy can walk over dangerous terrain, such as spikes and lava, allowing Yoshi to cross them safely. Yoshi did not appear until Super Mario World, which was released in 1990.However, Shigeru Miyamoto has stated in interviews that he wanted Mario to ride an animal companion after the completion of Super Mario Bros. Apparently, technical restrictions on the NES kept Mario from being able to ride an animal, but with the development of the Super Famicom in 1990, Yoshi could be created.

The Mecha Castle is the first castle level in Yoshi's Story. The castle contains a large amount of swords, gears, and spinning wheels much like the ones from Yoshi's Island. Some pistons smash together, instantly defeating any Yoshi traversing the castle. Other information[edit]Storybook segment[edit]The Yoshis finally got to the castle in the final page of the storybook. Behind all the noisy machines, Baby Bowser guarded the tree.
